GENERAL TUTORING

I am very flexible in my approach and can offer both targeted skill-based learning and more informal learning experiences for all children, no matter what their needs. Before committing to lessons together, we will have a no obligation, free of charge meeting to discuss which approach would be best for your child.

TARGETED SUPPORT

Some children might require targeted support in their learning of reading, writing or maths. Whether it is a lack of knowledge, understanding or confidence holding them back, children often make rapid progress from focussed lessons with me. I can work on phonics, handwriting, calculation strategies etc. I have years of experience with a wide range of SEN, and a sense of humour - laughter at some point during the lesson is compulsory!

CHILD-LED

Alternatively, some children with SEN need a break from rigorous teaching programmes and instead would benefit from informal learning through play, much like in pre-school settings. E.g. breaking up balls of play-doh to create a 'meal' and being guided into a discussion on fractions or shapes; counting and classifying bugs in the garden; writing labels for diagrams of wacky inventions - all led by the child's interests.

NOURISHING THE SOUL

Other children might need their confidence building by engaging in non-academic, self-esteem boosting activities, such as building Lego kits, crafts or yoga. As a former primary school teacher, I have done it all and can turn my hand to most things!

HOME EDUCATION

As well as after school tutoring, I am also available for teaching during school hours for home educated/flexi-schooled children. As above, I can provide formal, targeted skill-based lessons, as well as broader topic-based and play-based sessions. I can work with your child either for a set period of time, or on a regular, on-going basis. We can work with your child's interests to explore topics such as the human body, modes of transport, prehistoric life, the water cycle, botany, horology, architecture, ethnology, economics etc...
